PORCUPINE DEFENSE RELEASES ALBUM "RED CROSS RADIO HYMN" AS FREE DOWNLOAD

NOVEMBER 8, 2006 (NEW YORK, NY) - Primordial Music has released the second album from industrial electronic act Porcupine Defense as a free download from the label's website. The album, "Red Cross Radio Hymn" is the story of loss, spiritual disillusionment and alienation, set against a background of distorted guitars and heavy dance beats. Seven years in the making, it's a powerful and mature work well worth the wait of Porcupine Defense fans.

Porcupine Defense is the solo project of multimedia artist, musician and composer Colin Schwen, who originally fronted the innovative industrial band, Terminal Sect. Embracing a dark, aggressive approach to electronic music, Terminal Sect released three albums in the 1990s, collaborating with artists such as EnEsch of KMFDM & Chris Moriarty of Controlled Bleeding. Also a talented visual artist, Schwen consistently incorporated his sensibilities into the band's visual imagery and live performances.

"Porcupine Defense grew from my desire to produce a more organic sound that encompasses a wider range of genres," said Schwen. "Splinter," the first album from Porcupine Defense, was released in 1997 on Metropolis Records, which was followed by the release of several singles, most notably a contribution to the NIN tribute album "Recovered in Nails." Schwen then assembled a group of musicians for an east coast tour, combining the music of Porcupine Defense with striking visuals, culminating in a performance at the CMJ New Music Marathon in New York.

Now available as a free download, "Red Cross Radio Hymn" incorporates textural soundscapes, heavy hitting dance beats, unconventional electronic processing, and thought provoking lyrics that comment on political and spiritual issues. The album's 23 tracks (including 5 bonus tracks) deliver an impressive mix of hard-edged electronic noise with meticulously crafted songs, constantly pushing the boundaries of industrial music. Fans of Terminal Sect and Porcupine Defense will be impressed with the growth of this artist’s natural ability to provoke thought and stimulate.
